Immediate help
First aid - the care given before emergency medical help arrives - can literally mean the difference between life and death. But knowing the correct thing to do if someone has a nosebleed or cut is also important.
Being a first aider
First aid is based on knowledge, training and expertise. A first aider will have completed a practical training course under the supervision of a recognised first aid organisation.
If you're present at the scene of an accident, or during a medical emergency, you need to go through the following stages:
Assess the situation
Take control of your feelings, don't act impulsively
Look for continuing danger, to the casualties and to yourself
Decide whether to call for emergency help.

'Oldest human brain' discovered
Archaeologists have found the remains of what could be Britain's oldest surviving human brain.
The team, excavating a York University site, discovered a skull containing a yellow substance which scans showed to be shrunken, but brain-shaped.
Brains consist of fatty tissue which microbes in the soil would absorb, so neurologists believe the find could be some kind of fossilised brain.
The skull was found in an area first farmed more than 2,000 years ago.
The brain matter can be seen as a dark area at the top of the brain.
''There is something unusual in the way the brain has been treated, or something that it's been exposed to that has preserved the shape of it.

Balance of good health
Eat a healthy, balanced diet and stay active
The key to a healthy balanced diet is not to ban or omit any foods or food groups but to balance what you eat by consuming a variety of foods from each food group in the right proportions for good health.
How to eat a balanced diet
Eat a variety of foods to obtain all of the essential nutrientsToo much as well as too little can be bad for you – balance is requiredEveryone's plate will look slightly different as we all have different requirements depending on our body’s shape and size, and our levels of activity.

One month ago I started to write down each breakfast, lunch, snack and dinner that I ate. Today I was checking it, and I seem that I consumed a lot fat. I didn't feel good with the result because I saw the difference in the skin, so I got some acne and also I know that to eat fat is not a good way to be healthy. Them I decided to chage my menu, eating less fat, drinking more water and consuming more fruit and vegetables.

'I was completely black and blue'
UK plastic surgeons say they are seeing more and more people who need follow-up treatment after cosmetic surgery done abroad has gone wrong.
They are warning that such patients should not always be entitled to NHS help except in emergencies. So why do people seek surgery overseas?
Dawn Cracknell decided drastic action was needed. After having four children, she was unhappy with her body.

Pop tunes 'used to calm babies'
Rocking a baby to sleep has been given a whole new meaning as some mothers ditch traditional lullabies for popular pop and rock tunes.
Songs such as Robbie Williams' Angels and Oasis anthem Wonderwall proved popular in the poll of 2,000 mothers.
The survey found nearly two-thirds thought pop ballads could be better for getting babies to sleep than lullabies like Rock-a-Bye Baby.
The Baby Website, which carried out the research, said it was surprised.
Spokeswoman Kathryn Crawford suggested mothers were being influenced by the music they were listening to during the day.

Osteoporosis
Osteoporosis affects one in three women and one in 12 men, is responsible for 200,000 breaks per year in the UK and 40 deaths a day.
It is often known as a silent illness, because many people do not know they have it until it is too late.
Although it is thought of as a disease of old age, latest research suggests its roots lie in adolescence.

Laser Eye Surgery
The surgery is intended to reduce a person's dependency on glasses or contact lenses.
Doctors use a laser to permanently change the shape of the cornea, the clear covering over the coloured iris, and the lens, which is just behind the pupil of the eye.
What does the surgery entail?
The surgery is done as an out-patient procedure and takes about an hour.
Local anaesthetic drops are placed in the eye being treated.
A knife is used to cut a flap in the cornea.
A hinge is left at one end of this flap.
The flap is folded back to reveal the middle part of the cornea. Pulses from a laser vaporise a portion of this and the flap is replaced.
An eye patch is usually worn over the treated eye for 24 hours.

Fat-soluble vitamins
Fat-soluble vitamins
Fat-soluble vitamins include the vitamins A, D, E and K. They're essential for general good health, the daily repair of body cells and efficient functioning of body organs. As the name suggests, they're carried into the body by fat.
I think vitamins are very importan and the best way to get them, is from balanced diet.
